LIJC 2006 COMPETITION RESULTS

Wednesday 22 March an enthusiastic audience enjoyed a highly-charged evening of an incredible range of jazz material produced by some wonderfully talented vocalists from around the world, all competing for the prestigious LIJC Vocalist 2006 award.

The host venue, Chelsea’s splendid Cadogan Hall, was swinging to the rafters with exciting performances from all six finalists, making the judges’ decision extremely difficult.

After much deliberation, Filipino Mon David was announced the winner. He received the LIJC Vocalist 2006 award, a cheque for £1,000 and follow up gigs at Jagz in Ascot (Thursday 23 March) and the 606 Club, Chelsea (Sunday 26 March).

The Gibson-May Award for most impressive performance of an individual song went to Australia based Alison Wedding for her rendition of  We'll Be Together Again in the semi-final. Alison performed with Mon David at Jagz and 606 Club.

As a result of this competition, CANDID Records, through its company in Manila will be recording Mon David's album in the summer and promoting it world-wide.

Recognition goes to all 107 competitors from 25 nations, whose applications were of very high standard. The six competitors who did make it to the finals and produced an exceptional range of talent, were Dan Barnett, Karlie Bruce, Torsten Goods, Heidi Martin and Alison Wedding, who represented Australia, Germany and America respectively.
